Rolleston Railway Station - click to enlarge.

The TranzAlpine – Christchurch to Greymouth, rated one of the world’s great scenic railway journeys and you can catch the train at the Rolleston Railway Station. You won't be able to buy a pie or cup of tea at the station but the experience of boarding the train from this historic railway station will make up for it.

The old Rolleston Hotel.

Rolleston Hotel Fire On 14 July 1930 "The Press" reported that on 13 July 1930, the single storey Rolleston Hotel, a local landmark, was completely destroyed. The licensee and leasee, Mr Davis and his wife were lucky to escape. All that was saved was a piano and a few other articles. Mr Thomas Glen, the owner, and Mr Davis were underinsured. The fire was fought by willing helpers using buckets to get water from the nearby water race. The cause of the fire was never identified. The present hotel is built on the same site. This photo hangs on the wall of the historic hotel and captures much attention by visitors.

Former Junction Service Station in Rolleston.

END OF AN ERA The Motor Garage on the left was once called the Junction Service Station and it was purchased by Kevin Graham in 1986 and it became known as the Rolleston Garage. Kevin is standing in front of what was once a house attached to the garage. The condition of the garage is well passed its use by date so the Selwyn District Council have bought it and will pull it down and put a road roundabout in its place. Rolleston is one of the fastest growing towns in Canterbury as more people choose to move out of the city and enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle. Stay tuned because we plan to bring you much more information about who’s who in Rolleston.
